Well hello Ms Cold

Well that lovely time of year is upon us. Mulled wine, Christmas tree and enough Mince pies to build a city and also ........... the common cold and for a lot, the flu.

I love make up. Playing with, applying, writing about, reading about, really anything but when I feel rough I really can't be bothered to apply my face but don't want to scare the public.

We have two choices here, either go for a full face which can take longer to deal with the puffy eyes and the rudolph nose, or go for the natural (my choice).

One thing that I have to keep to hand is: Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream
You know after going through miles and miles worth of tissues, that your nose will resemble as victim of a cheese grater. Peeling skin is a major No-No especially around the nose.
Apply a small amount of the cream on the effected area and ............. its gone rather quickly. I recommend before the peeling even starts, get into the habit of applying this. Flaky snouts are not sexy!

Make up
To combait the red nose. Well this is tricky because I don't really want to apply to much make up as most of it will end up coming off on your tissue after 10 minutes.  I like to go for a green correcter, my fav is from No7, and then apply concealer. I am really like the mousse concealer from Maybelline.
While tackling the nose, also remember to calm down your eyes as well with concealer. My eyes can look a bit puffy so try and contour a little or at least reduce the redness and dark circles.

If you have been keeping on top of the eyebrow plucking/waxing, then just tidy and go. I have very light eyebrows and dyed black hair so I need to add a bit of colour here. Only a slight amount. You want them to look tidy not done as they will look strange against the pale face.

Do Not apply white liner on the inside of your eyes. A lot of sneezing will leave the eyes slightly red and this will just be increased by highlighting them in white.

Time for the brown mascara. Brown will help define the eyes without making them really dark. I tend to apply it to just the top lashes but this is your choice.

A small amount of a creamy pale blush on the apples of your cheeks to help you look fresh faced.
But be careful, if your face is red from sneezing etc, then blusher can just add to the problem. In this case, I tend to miss blusher and stick to contouring my cheekbones with bronzer and highlighter.

Lastly, just a lip balm. This is your choice if you want a plain one or a tinted one. Either is great.

I know that it sounds a lot but it isn't. The main thing is to control the redness. So if you are happy, you can just do that step.
Oh course you don't have to wear make up at all if you are happy but this is for people like me who just want to conceal it a tad.

It is important to keep up with your cleansing routine. Even if this means using facial wipes and a moisturisers. Your body is busy fighting this infection so it needs a little help from you at this point.
I know, I know, you just want to go to bed but it will be worth it in the long run.

I hope you all get through this yucky stage quickly. Stay warm, keep your energy up with food, lots of fluid and rest.

See you on the other side

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick: 006 Pink Champagne

BARBIE LIPSTICK!!!

I am not usually the sort of girl to wear a pale lippy as I have very pale skin and black hair, I like to wear one that packs a punch. However, I love this lipstick.

Eventhough it is pink, it is a bright pink that goes beautifully with smoking eyes.

Firstly I love the name of it. Come on .Pink Champagne, what is not to love. It is very girlie.

I am a massive fan of Rimmel products, especially there lipsticks and this one doesn't let them down.

The packaging, is there usual minimal style with the Rimmel Crown engraved on the top of the lid.
This lipstick as a smell to it. Not the usual smell of a lippy but a sort of creamy sweet smell which just adds to the loveliness.
One application is all that is needed as it is rather thick when applied but it feels very comfortable of the lips.
Be careful of applying it to think because you can easily go from cute barbie to trashy.

With any lipstick, I always recommend using a liplock to help the staying power. As this is a pink colour, it can easily disappear without you realising.

This lipstick retails at around £7.
Super cute and worth every penny!

Boots Traditional Skin Care. Glycerin and Rosewater Toner

What the packaging says
Boots traditional Glycerin and Rosewatrer is a cooling, refreshing beautifier that softens and moisturisers the skin.

As anyone that has read my reviews will know, is that cleansing, toning and moisturising are very important to me as my skin changes so quickly.

When it comes to picking a toner, I want something that smells fresh, is light weight and leaves my skin calm.

I love the boots original range. They are really cheap compared to some of the other products on the market. I also keep coming back to this range again and again because it has been around for years. And if a product has been around this long then there must be something worth looking into.

I love the smell of this toner. even before using it I feel clean and refreshed.

I have been using this for ages and it has helped keep my skin blemish free and has improved my skin.

Also I advice keeping your toner in coolish place as I find that this helps with the refreshing feeling and helps calm any redness that may have occured during the day.

You can get this lovely toner at Boots (obv) and retails at around £3.
Great little pick me up.

Rimmel Fix & Perfefct Pro primer

What the packaging says
Skin-perfecting formula for 5-in-1 results:
  1. Smoothes
  2. Resurfaces
  3. Brightens
  4. Mattifies
  5. Protects
Prolongs foundation  wear (doesn't that make 6-in-1?).
Apply to clear skin. Wear alone or under foundation.

I can't go without a primer as I have combination skin which can change quickly, so primer is a must.

The product is a white watery cream which spreads easily onto the skin and does sink in, however it can take long than some primers.

Ok we will go one step at a time
  1. Smoothes - My skin did feel smooth after use but to be honest, I have quite soft skin anyway. At least it didn't feel tight or react to my skin. Very comfortable to wear.
  2. Resurfaces - Sounds scary if you ask me. Wouldn't say it resurfaced the skin.
  3. Brightens - I didn't notice a change in the brightness of my skin really.
  4. Mattifies - Well, to start with.....yes. But after a couple of hours, my make up was starting to slide.
  5. Protects - Its may do, it doesn't say that it has SPF in it so I am unsure of what it is actually protecting us from. Maybe the enviroment, but I don't it.
I would like to focus on point 4 - Mattifies. As I have said, my make up was starting to slide at 2 hours which could easily be touched up with power. After 8 hours, I looked like a total grease monkey. I touched my forehead and all make up was coming away without any problem and it looked and felt horrible. I am going to take a picture at some point so you can see how bad it was. I have never wanted to cleanse my skin in public before but I really wanted to today.
Ok the weather has changed in England but this would stop a primer working this much.

I am really sad about this product. I love Rimmel and it won't stop me using other products of theirs in the future, however, this is bad.

As I always say, this is just the reaction it had on my skin, it may work better on yours, but for me this is a total no go product.
Maybe if you have dry skin, this could be perfect but any oil at all, then stay clear.

Disappointed.

Retails at around £7.

There at  a lot better products out there.

No7 Quick Thinking 4 in 1 wipes

Good morning,

ok so your in a major rush and need to cleanse quick, well these little beauties are a must.

What the packaging says
Be good to your skin , even when your short of time with these gentle, fragrance-free wipes. Specially created for your busiest days, they sweep away impurities, tone your skin, remove waterproof make-up and moisturise, quick as a flash.

With vitamin pro B5 to moisturise and soften, plus extracts of witch hazel and fennel to clear pores and leave your skin feeling smooth and fresh.

I love the packaging of this product. Usually when you buy wipes, you have a little sticky tab to reseal them which always seem to come away and so your wipes dry out. Not with this. The beautifully blue pack comes with a strong clip shut lid, so no more dry outs, Yipppeeee!

These wipes are suitable for all skin types, are hypo-allergenic and totally fragrance free.
Some wipes when you take them out of the packet, they feel moist however these don't, but don't worry, they work like a dream.

I have combination skin and my nose at the moment is very dry with a moisturiser. Eventhough I will be applying a cream, my skin doesn't feel like I have to after using the No7 wipes. My skin feels clean, fresh and soft.
I am also really surprised how easily it removed my waterproof mascara, especially the amount that I wear. Also when I used at night, I didn't wake up to mini panda eyes. Very Very impressed.

These are retailing at £7.50 for 30 wipes.
I don't usually like spending much on wipes as I try not to use them unless I am desperate as total cleansing is much better for your skin. But I admit, I am hooked on these so will continue to buy them for them busy days.

Love them

Maybelline: color sensational lipstain

OK, so everyone has probably seen that there is already a lipstain pen on the market (not naming the brand) and now there is a new contender.

Introducing Maybelline's color sensational lipstain!

I really am a massive fan of these lipstins, they are super sweet and will fit into any handbag plus they are much more wearable in my opinion.

The colour that I have choosen is 480 Shy Red. LOVE IT!

Ok, for anyone that hasn't seen these, they ok the same as a felt tip pen and well, actually work in the same way as well. You use the nib of the pen to line the lips and the flat surface to cover the lips. The nice thing about these products is that you can increase the amount of colour that you apply to achieve the look that you want.
These are much easier and smiliar to apply as it is full self contain and there is no need for fingers or brushes.

One of the things that I like about the Maybellines lipstain is the smell. It smells really sweet, like a sweet shop, maybe with a hint of jelly babies. Thats it ............ the smell is the black and pink jelly babies!

Once you have applied the stain you do not feel it on your lips. It sinks in beautifully and last for a impressive amount of time.

The only thing that I would say, and this doesn't just apply to this brand, is be very careful when you choose the colour. Eventhough it is called Sky Red, it is actually a pinkish sort of colour of the lid and the colour chart. To be safe make sure that you test before you by or buy a shade down from what you would normally pick.

This range has a small but lovely selection of colours of around five or six. A colour to suit any skin shade.

This is avaliable currently for around £5.99

I

+ this is a major must have if you are going on holiday or even anywhere that has sun at the moment, as the lightweight formula is really comfortable, light and smudge proof.

Perfect!

beautyuk: eye shadow collection 2

Whenever I go on holiday I want to try and take the bare minimal of make up that I can, however I do like to experiment while away.

While on holiday, you can get away with a lot more. I'm not saying apply make up while drunk etc but as you have a tan, more colours are an option.

I really like this little collection of colours, they are really in your face. This is not something that I would generally wear on a day to day bases, but the do have a tropic feeling to them.

The packaging is very slimline and compact so easy to slip into your luggage. The front in completely clear so all colours are visible. This looks really pretty and looks great on your dressing table.
Also included is a fairly large applicator (I hate these things and always take my own brushes but I handy idea anyway). It also has a long thin mirror. Your reflection will look like your vision after a few vinos and you struggle to fit your whole eye in the view but it does cause some giggles.

The colours contained are:
  • Pink
  • Light purple
  • Deep Purple
  • Orange
  • Light Green
  • Yellow
  • Aqua Green
  • Mint blue
  • Sky blue
  • Royal blue

I didn't think that the colours would go on that well as the colours are so intense in the collection but they go on fab! They real are easy to apply, and achieve a deep hit of colour true to the original shade.

If you want something low key, well ........... this ain't for you but if you like to jazz it up a bit and have fun then this will be great for you.

I purchased this from Superdrugs and it cost me around £4. Fab buy. Really! Buy it for the hols!

Sally Hansen: Lip inflation

What they claim:

LIP INFLATION
Plumping treatment - instantly plumps lips
YOU HAVE:
Thin, pale, ordinary lips
YOU'LL GET:
Fabulous, sexy, fuller-looking lips that you have always dreamed of

HOW IT WORKS:
  • Revolutionary 'Lip Plumper' - the perfect pout without the pain!
  • Plumping formula with Peppermint to 'cool' and stimulate lips.
  • Extracts of ginger and cinnamon stimulate the lips without discomfort
  • Boosts circulation in your lips for added volume
  • Lips become flushed and plump instantly
  • Vitamins A & E nourish the lips.

OK people, who doesn't want bigger lips. I think i have tried loads of lip pluckering products but have been disappointed by everyone. This was my last shot.

I love Sally Hansan's range of other products so was keeping fingers tightly crossed.
The end result was very shiny lips and knuckle ache.

The packaging
Minimal and smart. The tube is clear plastic and the lid is gold. Writing has been kept to the total basics, which keep the look clean and fresh.
The brush is thin and neat and after a few uses it hasn't started to 'spread', so it is easy to apply.

The Product
When you apply the gloss, there is a very noticable tinkling sensation, which got me hopeful.
The taste of the product is pleasent, slightly minty mixed with something else.

Anyway after wearing the product, I noticed that my lips..........were no different.

As anyone knows, I really don't like having a downer on products so.....

THIS IS A BRILL LIP GLOSS.

OK so it doesn't do what it says on the tin (well for me anyway) but the gloss stays on the lips really well, even while eating and drinking. Which is pretty impressive in my books.
I think because the shine last for such a long time, it does make you lips appear more 'out there' however this is shine not plumping magic.

But as I said, if you want a killer gloss, this is the product to buy.
Still a must have in my case.

My Day off

Hello again,

I have been lucky to now have two lovely days off to relax and ......... tidy up if I'm honest. Anyway, I think the best thing to do while doing this, is to give my skin a day off as well.

I think this is an extremely important thing to do from time to time. You put your skin through a lot everyday and expose it to everything really. And eventhough it may look OK, it is still a good idea to take some extra care of it.

I hardly even I go out without makeup on, apart from days like these ('cos I feel naked without it!).

I always make sure it is the day when I have a good bash at my eyebrows. These are very important as they frame your face, so you want to spend some time on these otherwise things are going to be a bit of a struggle from then on. So take your time.

Eventhough, I remove my make up every night, I still do the same cleansing routine every morning to make sure I get rid off all the dirt and wake my skin up.

  1. I start my removing my eye make up. At the moment I am using Nivea Extra Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover. You don't have to use this one, just make sure it is one that is comfortable on the skin round the eye area for your skin type.
  2. I then tackle the eyebrows, choose whichever method you are happy with.
  3. I then use my cleanser Eau Thermale Avene: Extremely Gentle Clenser. I could not live without this product. The best cleanser that I have ever used on my face.
  4. I then use Eau Thermale Avene: Thermal Water.  I have reviewed this before and it is a firm favourite and a must have for any kit and handbag.
  5. After letting that soak into the skin, I apply Pond's Nourishing anti-wrinkle Cream. Beautiful product and a favourite of my grandmothers.
  6. Next onto the lip balm: I use Carmex as it achieves lovely and quick results and smells lovely (the cherry one).
  7. If I don't have to go out, then I skip applying any other products but I need to so (i know that I didn't plan to but I need a bit of help this morning) , I have to keep it minimal. So I apply a concealer, only to the areas that really trouble me. Make sure your not too heavy handed.
  8. Make sure that eyebrows are groomed.
  9. I apply mascara at this stage if I am going out as I really can't be seen without it (sad, I know). Today I am using Rimmel The MAX Volume Mascara 001 Black. Only on the top lashes though.
  10. I am very pale, so I need a tidy bit of colour to my cheeks. I use Posie tint by Benefit. This is not to heavy and will give a slight hint of colour.
And that is it. My skin has a chance to breath, calm and repair.

Maybe once a week try to do this, or at least ease up on the amount of make up you apply a tad. You will notice a difference.

Avon: Glazewear Sparkle in Coral

Morning,

Anyone that has read my reviews will know that I am not the biggest fan of Avon products. Maybe I just have bad luck with them, as my sister and my mum like the products they recieve, I .... just don't.

I really don't like having a downer on a brand or company so I keep trying to find something that I am really happy about, but I am struggling.

My mum order this lipgloss for herself but it appeared to bright for her liking so she passed it to me.

At the moment coral is everywhere in make up, so I had hopes for this. I also liked the fact that it had sparkle in it. I love a bit of glitter.

OK, the colour is true to the appearence and it is applied like any other lipgloss. The colour goes on well but you have to make sure that you get it even.
The colour does come off easily it you drink something or kiss someone even (the boy wasn't impressed) but otherwise stays on okish.
I think that this is a gloss that is best applied over a lipstick if you want a bit of a shimmer. On its own, its not scoring high.

It feels very thick on my lips. I am well aware that I am wearing lipgloss, which I don't like. It also has a taste of plastic which is always in my mouth. Yuk.

It does however sparkle. A lot of lipgloss that promise this fail, but this doesn't. It is only a subtle glimmer but cute.

I really can't decide if I like this product or not. There are some upsides to it but I am struggling to get over the thickness of it, as it is driving me crazy and the taste that it leaves in your mouth.

One of the better products that I have tried.

Give it a go, it aint terrible. Just not brilliant.

Wednesday 6 July 2011

Benefit: Posie tint

What the packaging says
Poppy-pink tinted lip & cheek stain. Brush three strokes on the apple of your cheek and blend quickly. Dot on lips and blend with fingertips. For a deeper 'pop' of color, repeat.

I'm usually not a massive fan of these two in one products for everyday use. I only use when on holiday really, because they are handy little products. This lip and cheek stain is howver, is something that I will keep in my handbag.

This is a super cute little bottle, it is shiny, and cute with a little posie on it. What's not to like.

Anyone that has not used a product like this before, it is a liquid tint that can be blended into both the cheeks and lips and you apply the product with a brush.

I have very very pale skin, and I have to apply this shade a couple of times  for there to be an impact, however for a faint blush, this works well. Anyone who has darker skin than me (which wouldn't be difficult), I would suggest buying the next shade up.

I really like that this stain has a beautiful fresh scent to it. Other products that I have used don't have a smell so this is lovely.

I also like how easy this is to blend into the skin. You do need to work quickly thought so you don't end up with some funky lines down your face.
It also feels very comfortable on the skin, there is no tightness or anything.
It also last for a good lenght of time and looks very natural and fresh.

Lovely little tint!

This retails at around £25. Ok it is a little bit pricey for what it is but it is nice.

FAMOUS by Sue Moxley

Bronzer season!

OK, as anyone who has read my blogs and reviews will know, I have albaster skin. So me wearing a bronzer is sometimes a bit difficult and time consuming to blend.

Well, I was going to Turkey for a two week break with the girls and I was determined to get a tan. Well a tan for me anyway.

Before I went away, I packed my usual bronzer but decided to take this one away with me as well. It is usually a lot darker than my usual shade of choice but I wanted to give it a go.

So I picked up: FAMOUS by Sue Moxley. Baked Bronze. Shade 2  - Hawaii.

I really like the packaging of this bronzer. It is minimal, silver and black. Cute and simple.

What I like about this bronzer pot is that it comes complete with a little bronzer brush underneath the lid.
It also comes complete with a compact mirror underneath the lid. Cute if you are on the move but I can't work with a mirror this small.
Great idea though.

What I love about this bronzer is the colour. Well the many different colours all blended together. They also have a slight hint of shimmer in them.

Now eventhough that it comes with a little brush, I did not use it. When applying a bronzer, I prefer to use a blusher or angle brush. This brush is a little to harsh for my liking. It I was creating something more sculpted, then I would use it.

I found that you only need a little of this product to achieve a desired effect on fair skin. It also shows up brilliantly in photographs and stays put after an evening of dancing.

I would recommend this product to anyone.
All I would say that you should choose your colour carefully or practice on the application. As I have said, a little bit goes a long way and the colour is a bit darker than in the tester palettes.

I brought this Bronzer fro Superdrugs and it cost me around £4.50.

Well worth it.

Boots: Overnight skin cream

What the packaging says

A rich moisturising cream infused with uplifting bergamot oil and indulgent almond oil.

I really like boots range of facial products. I think they are super cute.

The Boots range was first marketed in 1849 and still sticks to its original beauty formula.

The whole range comes packaged in glass bottles and pots and the design is very minamal which kepts it looking tidy and fresh.

The moisturiser is a pure white and feels thick when you pick it up but it works into the skin really well without any effort.
Once applied to the skin, it does take a bit of time to soak into the skin, well quite a while actually.
The skin feels quite comfortable but there is a slight sting (very slight) if you haven't applied it for a while.

When you open the jar, the mosituriser has got a strong smell. If I am honest, I can't really describe what it smells like. It has got a slight hint of almond in it but that is all I can really say. It is a very pleasent clean and refreshing smell.

This product retails at around £5.

I would recommend it if you have a normal skin type but if your skin is very oily or desert dry, then I don't think that this would be the best moisturiser for you.

Well worth a little try though.

MAYBELLINE: VOLUME EXPRESS MASCARA: THE ONE BY ONE

OK, i will say it. I'm in love.

Anyone that has read my reviews and my blog will have noticed that i have a thing with mascara and lashes. I want them as black as possible and as impressive as possible.

I have always had fairly good luck with mascaras but I tend to reach for the falsies on a night out.

Well not anymore!

This has got to be one of the best mascaras that I have ever tried.

What the packaging states
Exclusive brush "The Lash Catcher" captures, coats and cleans every single lash for big, clean volume from root to tip.
Conditioning formula with Vitamin C* leaves lashes so smooth they don't stick together.
Ophthalmologist tested.
Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
The packaging
The mascara comes in the usual bullet shape that you can expect from Maybelline (that isn't a bad thing). But the thing that I love the most from the outside is that it is an amazing shade of reddy-pink. Really lovely.

The head of the wand is thick, very thick in fact. It is also red to start with, so you can see when the mascara is starting to run out. It can be so difficult to tell with the black kind.

As I have said, i want my lashes to be as big as possible at all times. This mascara packs a punch. Usually I have to apply a couple of coats on my lashes to get a look that I am happy with, but with this one, I was taken aback after the first coat.
It really does coat every lash from root to tip and there is no clumps as it does smooth the lashes.
I have been wearing my normal 2-3 coats and people have commented on how great my lashes look and also have ask wear I brought them!

If you are a natural girl and keep things simple, then this isn't the product for you. This is for the girl who loves drama, long lashes, very dark lashes, show stopping lashes, in your face lashes!

I could ot live without this mascara. It really has changed my life and now travels everywhere with me.

This is at least a Friday Night Must Have! And something that can't be missed!

Retails at around £9. A true bargain!
